The Vishal Kapur Surface Design Studio was founded in 2009 by the National Institute of Design alumnus Vishal Kapur, who exemplifies a spirit of creativity and innovation. Design inspiration by Kapur offers a rhythmic fusion of modernity and heritage.
Kapur's style strikes a harmonious balance between craft and design. He is renowned for transcending the boundaries of traditional aesthetics to form an amalgamation of inspirations & techniques, blended into unique creations. The studio has established a niche for itself in which each work is diligently contemplated. This "attention to detail" guarantees that form and function are beautifully balanced in every creation. Because of his close collaboration with Indian artisans, Kapur's work has a unique depth and richness. Together, it's a designer's quest of exploration, innovation, and melding craft with modern values.
Thriving under the studio's work are 'appliqué' and 'badla work from Aligarh, Gota work from Jaipur, as well as block and screen printing from Sanganer (Jaipur) and handlooms from Mangalgiri, Kota, Banaras, and Chanderi, weaving creativity seamlessly. In essence, Vishal Kapur Surface Design Studio is an homage to the eternal beauty of tradition, a symphony of craftsmanship, and a celebration of rhythmic designs redefined.
Our Journey:
The realization that there was a significant void in the commercial market for modern textiles with a flavor of traditional India led to the creation of a variety of ready-to-stitch sarees, prints, and Salwar Kameez ensembles. The products are made from fabrics that are only created and woven on handlooms in the handloom clusters of Chanderi and Mangalgiri.
In order to produce one-of-a-kind clothing concepts, the materials are then further enhanced in Rajasthan utilizing ancient printing processes and natural colors. Dupattas are handmade in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, using handlooms. Also, they can be surface embellished using methods from Aligarh and Lucknow to match the prints created in Rajasthan. The concept has achieved great success in the commercial market and has become one of the several specialty products of the design Studio.
